A.Y. Jackson was invited to cottage on Georgian Bay at Go Home Bay by friend and patron Dr. James MacCallum; this is where he painted this work. The windswept pines have become an iconic symbol of this region and the Muskoka area. As well, the round smooth rocks are typical of the environment in the surrounding region. The pool of water trapped in the rocks is the focal point of the painting, and in the mural recreation by Janine Marson it look as though you could walk between the rock and the water.
