This painting is one of Frank Johnston's earlier pieces, and bears a strong influence to the works by the rest of the Group of Seven during this period. Unmistakable is the thick brush strokes and bold use of colours that were the hallmark of Tom Thomson's influence on his group of artist friends. The painting located to the left at this location shows a significantly different style of painting that Johnston adapted after his time in the Group of Seven. Of interest, Frank and Franz Johnston are the same person. He changed his name after leaving the group to differentiate himself as an individual in the art world.
